FAQs - Self-Defence

Can I hit someone first in self-defence?

In certain circumstances you are allowed to strike someone else first and claim self-defence.

To successfully claim your action was self-defence you would have to prove that you reasonably felt that an attack against you was going to happen immediately and that you had either tried and failed with other alternatives or that they did not exist.

You would also have to prove the attacker had the means to carry out their threat there and then.

Lastly you would have to prove that the force you used was reasonable and proportionate to the perceived attack.

So although there are clear laws around self-defence the natures of assaults and confrontations often leave a fair amount of room for interpretation.

Both our daughters aged, 15 and 17, love their Krav lessons as keeps them fit and safe. I am so reassured that they know how to look after themselves as Krav gives them extra confidence. The instructors are great too, always kind and fully engaged. Highly recommend the club to everyone.
